Squirtle's family line. by dobharachu Squirtle's family line. by dobharachu
Soooooo much fun to make,soooo much...i'm gonna....just.....feel....

Ahem ya I just had a lot of fun and stuff with this. The only thing I don't think is perfect is blastoise's eyes, everything else is 100% accurate, because I made bloody sure of it :)
Yeah so I was asked to make the squirtle evolution line and was given pretty much free range with the poses and stuff. The sizes of the piece were as requested. I think at its tallest it was around 5 inches or maybe six. So squirtle and wartortle were pretty small and yet I packed in all the details, because I'd be damned if they weren't perfect.
Used a mix of sculpey and epoxy resin clay to give maximum strength, over a foil and wire armature.
The base was painted a metallic golden yellow with dabs of metallic orange to look like sand, and there is a watery splash effect beside squirtle, wartortle and being splashed up by blastoise's foot. they were painted metallic selver, then went over with translucent glass paint to give a lovely glossy watery finish. And then I made feckin shit tonnes of tiny bubbles out of apoxy and attached them....individually around the piece....not fun bit. THe whole piece was hand painted and is my best and by far most complicated piece to date. The whole thing was sealed with fimo semi-gloss, because i cant find spray matte varnish in Ireland, and their eyes and the water and bubbles were varnished with gloss to complete the lovely shine.

SO yeah, open for commissions.

Very nice! I love the waves that you added! It makes the thingy it's standing on (sorry idk what it's called ^^') look much more interesting! That's very creative =)

Thanks :) I fully intended that because I love adding those little features. Only for it wasn't requested, and I forgot XD I would have added water spurts from blastoise's cannons. I much prefer when pokemon are shown with features like that or doing moves.
Not that I think about it my Diancie sculpture isnt doing one :O...might have to fix that

That's very cool! I also love doing dynamic poses and actions, giving them an opportunity to show what they can do and their personality, rather than just letting them be idle...well, sculptures! xD
Oooh, good luck! :D

yeah definately. Sometimes though a contained pose is good two. Specially if the character is graceful or delicate.
Yeah doing moves is really fun because often you can do them different ways, and picking the best way is really intwresting.
Thanks ^_^
